Frist begins to Trigger the Nuclear Option
Listen, right now to the CSPAN 2 feed (wma) to hear the Nuclear Option unfold. Frist wants days of debate, which is fine with me because the longer this draws out, just like the Bolton Nomination, will hurt the GOP more than it will hurt Democrats. It seems that the Nuclear Option will occur tomorrow.
For those following at home, I wrote an overview of how the Nuclear Crybaby Option will work.

Senator Frist
He keeps going on and on about majority rights, and can read the Constitution real well, but fundamentally distorts history - especially on judicial appointments. Claiming that Democrats are destroying 200 years of tradition, that the majority must be able to vote on a nominee. But oh how he forgets Senator Hatch's changing the Blue Slip Policy, which the GOP in the 1990's (the minority party) obstructed nominees the same way as he is claiming Democrats are.
Frist: Bob Dole's minority did not deny the majority's judicial nomination
- this is a lie, the GOP used Blue Slip's to deny Clinton nominations to get to the floor. This is called parliamentary procedure.
Now Senator Schumer asked Frist about his Filibuster of Judge Richard Paez, Frist babbles on and then peter's out. Nice one, Frist.
Senator Reid calls BS on Frist's Bob Dole lie. You want to talk about the history of the Filibuster, lets talk about the Filibuster. Let's talk about the Filibuster's pro's and con's, but it is a "right to extend debate." A check on majority rule.
Senator Specter begins his speech. It will be interesting to see where he lands. Tries to brook a negotiation, take us back to 1987 - to judicial filibuster as a narrowly defined set of rules. Specter now vacillates between the Judicial-Nuclear Option, Nuclear-Constitutional Option, Constitutional-Nuclear Option - talk about a fluttering fainthearted walk of the line.
OK so, I've had enough. The GOP line is that Justice Brown should be confirmed because she, gosh, just has a nice biography, and if you don't vote for her, you are a racist pig. Oh, and all nominees need an up and down vote, even if this is not enshrined in the Constitution. And you Democrats are just poopy-heads. This is the level of thought the GOP has brought to bear.
