General Motors, city destroyer, extraordinaire

General Motors calls those who ride public transportation 'Creeps & Weirdos' - Too bad that GM bought up all of the old trolly lines in the 1950's and shut them down, in order to clog the streets of America with cars. Oh, yeah, and the H2.

Welcome to my life.

I have exactly $14.50 to live on for the month of June.

Hey, at least I will have a roof over my head - but no phone or electricity.

No, I don't want your sympathy - it is my own damn fault.

Time to pay to reaper.

Condoms != more sex

Condoms in schools not linked to teen sex rate
Teenagers at high schools where condoms were available were no more likely to have sex than other teens, a study published Wednesday finds. -- snip -- "The concerns of the small minority of parents who oppose providing condoms or related instruction in schools were not substantiated," wrote lead author Susan M. Blake and her colleagues at George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
That's right: just because there are condoms available, doesn't mean that kids are laying pipe more. Small pieces of latex do not transform the youth of America into sex fiends. Say it with me: latex is not to teens as spinach is to Popeye. Let's protect kids from std's and pregnancy when they have sex. Because, lets get this straight: teens have sex.

We ask for all of the Baby-Boomers reading to remember when you were younger. OK, remember? Remember being young, and noticing women for the first time? Or, for the ladies, do you remember looking at Johnny-sports-hero during practice or gym? Did people have sex? Of course you had sex. That, and you all pretty much laid pipe from here to the moon during the 60's and 70's. Even the "Lost Generation," and the "Me Generation" was able to take care of business.

So don't act surprised that the youth of America are doing it too. You at least had a get-out-of-jail-free-card with the clap and syphilis; we have to deal with things that can kill us. So lets arm teens with a two-fold attack: educate kids about their body and teach self-respect. This respect will transfer to others; if we can get rid of the Judeo-Christian self-body loathing, things will be that much easier. The second prong of attack is to teach safe sex: condom use, the availability of the morning-after pill [which is not abortion], and the reinforcement that safe sex will protect all.

By combining self-respect and safe sex, not only would you get teens that will want to wait, but also when they will have sex, they will be protected. What is more alluring: something, which is bad and dirty like many treat sex, or something, which is open and discussed? Who do kids drink and smoke? It is because we tell them it is bad and they naturally are rebellious.

There are three morals of this situation. First, just because condoms are available, doesn't mean kids will use it. The other moral is that teens are smarter, and are making smarter decisions, than society gives them credit. Finally, a small minority of the Christian Right will use any scare tactic to instill fear and loathing - especially when dealing with sex. Just because you loathe your body, doesn't mean we should. Yes, our bodies are temporary vessels, and we are sinful, and the greatest glory is in heaven, but dammit - things are pretty good here. So don't go and try to foist your restrictive values on us.

Thanks.

Things that amuse us

OK, to counteract the last post, here are things that amuse us, in no special order or magnitude:
  1. The Muppet Show.
  2. When famous people appear on Sesame Street. During the beginning of Iraq2.0, Kofi Annan was a guest, and mediated a fight between two different monsters. If the world could just sit down and watch Sesame Street, we would have a safer world.
  3. The smile Herself makes when she wants something. The term, "Using her Feminine Charms," isn't even close to applicable in this situation.
  4. Milk.
  5. The word Ketchup. Say it: Ketchup. Ke-CTH-up. Ketchup. The English language astounds us.
  6. The phrase, "It don't matter, none."
  7. Friends calling us, "DOT-COM."

Things that Annoy us

In no special order or magnitude, here are some things that annoy us:
  1. The inability for us to create a logical skeleton in Alias|Wavefront Maya
  2. People starting relationships, and then cutting off all communication with the rest of the world
  3. Getting frustrated with Herself for something that is so trivial and inconsequential. Then realizing that whatever happened is so incredibly trivial and is completely stupid, that the grubbykid is stupid to be getting frustrated. Then five minutes later, it is business as usual. What is not annoying, is when Herself - for some unknown reason - doesn't get mad. We like that.
We wish we could just skip the first couple of steps.
Really, we are working on it.
  4. The inability not to check email every hour
  5. Not finding a job in New York City
  6. Being a destitute graduate student
Of course, the list is longer. However, why would we bore you with the daily drudgery? That wouldn't be cool now, wouldn't it?

This is my first try at Pin Hole photography. I think that the focal length is a bit off, because the image is a bit too fuzzy for my liking.

The People v. President Bush, re: 9.11

President Bush and his administration are actively suppressing the September 11 Congressional Report. Which is funny, since they are going to use September 11 as a campaign strategy.
The tensions over the release of 9-11 related material seems especially relevant - if not ironic - in light of recent reports that the president's political advisers have devised an unusual re-election strategy that essentially uses the story of September 11 as the liftoff for his campaign. The White House is delaying the Republican nominating convention, scheduled for New York City, until the first week in September 2004 - the latest in the party's history. That would allow Bush's acceptance speech, now slated for Sept. 2, to meld seamlessly into 9-11 commemoration events due to take place in the city the next week.
