We are sinking, abandon Island?

Hidden island off Sicily may reappear. At one point in 1831 the island rose above the sea to a height of 213 feet above sea level, and then receded in 6 months! Holy Crap! In 1831 Italy and the UK squared over ownership of the island so, "...Sicilian divers have gone down and planted a flag on the rock in the hope of claiming it as Italian the moment it rises above the surface", Enzo Boschi, head of Italy's Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, said. The article says, "Over the centuries, the island has emerged four times, with underwater volcanic eruptions first recorded during the first Punic War of 264-241 BC."

Google was kind enough to translate a page from divermac.it which shows some very interesting images, especially this image of the underwater mountain. Very cool stuff [not that great of a translation, though].
